Fields of Solace and coming exhibitions

Fields of Solace and coming exhibitions

The subject of our teachings this week, was on the famous artist Mark Rothko.  (Think rectangles people!)

You wouldn’t really think so though, looking at what I painted.  Maybe next week I’ll tackle an abstract piece.  Although there are aspects of abstractedness in this one…(?).. if you look really up close!

Also news in that I’ll be exhibiting soon.  One is a the local Artzplace community group.  I’ll be placing the pieces that were in the Swancon show, and one from the City of Cockburn’s last Show Off exhibition as well.  Pity this one can’t be included… it looks pretty good in the flesh.

There’s also an upcoming exhibit at Little Creatures, called Bestiola’s.  That should be fun.  Apparently “Bestiola” means – little creature, so that’s clever!  I feel an evil mutating creature featured style painting/drawing lurking to be created!  Watch out for this one, it will be an exciting event, with some wonderful West Aussie artists getting involved!

Kline styles and Reflections

Kline styles and Reflections

The Freedom School of Art started back in for another term this week.  We looked at the style of Kline’s paintings…. not my total cup of tea really.  But it was kind of interesting watching our teacher produce one in the style of Kline’s famous black and white pieces.

I couldn’t really bring myself to produce something along this style, so went with this instead.  I like it actually.. not sure if it’s finished yet… perhaps I will work into it a bit more.

i am Kate!

i am Kate!

Where I work there is a lovely and very beautiful girl called Kate.  She has embarked on a bit of a modelling carreer and I just love her look.  I did a painting of her awhile ago which she loved… and she asked me to do another.  Soooo here it is.  I think I’ll go put it on her desk this morning as a little surprise… she has no idea (yet) that I did this last night.  Hope she likes it, because I’m pretty wrapped at how it came out!

I forced myself to draw this in ink from the beginning, so I would have to make fairly accurate lines and not make any too big a mistake.  Seems to have worked out okay I think. Then as I kept working on it, for some reason… the idea of incorporating one of my favourite and iconic TV shows into it also slipped into my mind.  “Twin Peaks”.

The Sketchbook Project

The Sketchbook Project

I’m sketching slowly but surely into my little notebook that will next year be on an exciting journey around the world.

It’s called the Sketchbook project and many many Artists of a multitude of talent are also involved.  My little journal’s theme is “Fill me with stories”.  They liken the whole thing to a a kind of concert tour, but with sketchbooks.   The notebooks will travel from – Brooklyn, NY to Melbourne, Australia, even over to London, England!!

I have only done two little cute sketches into it, and Clara Lansdale is one of them.   I just had a look at a little promo video on it… it’s quite amazing at what people actually do with their individual journals.. all so very different and wonderful!  See below Clara to watch!
