Still a little more to go with this one, mid-way progress shot and a more abstract feel.

Back in full swing!

Back in full swing!

After a small hiatus of mucking about with the new art name (Violet and Darby) – I’ve decided to start investing more time into this site with my normal nuttier drawings, keeping V&D open for my softer stylings.

The catalyst was a social media workshop completed, and they’ve suggested it’s quite okay to do both, keeping my brand separate for each.  We shall see how it goes, because having two art sites and posting to both different artworks,  kind of does my head in!!    Stay tuned, for more fun, as we’ll ride this painted pony all the way to her rainbow stables!

Halp…! My doodles are taking over!

Halp…! My doodles are taking over!

I love drawing.  Or should I say doodling.  It does seem more and more these days that the only time I do have for art is for sketchy, quick stuff.  I know that I should really spend more time,  but finding the time to devote to such endeavours is becoming hard to find.  Therefore most of the art I produce is quick – with no planning.

Is this a bad thing?… perhaps if I’m not careful, all my art will be a mish mash of doodley scribblings with not much substance to show for my talents.  I worry too that I’m not really progressing further with artist skills. In saying this though,  I had a look at some early stuff from 2009, and there does seem some improvement in my portrait creations.

At any rate, as I said, I really only create art/drawing/doodles because I enjoy it.  I’m not out to win any illustrative prizes or accolades.   So I guess I’ll just keep going the way I’m going – well maybe until I win Lotto and can spend all my day painting and drawing. 😉

Millions of doodles and zillions of sketches

Millions of doodles and zillions of sketches

Hi there, It has been awhile since my last post!  And if you check my other website www.violetanddarby.com.au or my @violetanddarby instagram – you’ll see I have indeed  been very busy.

Here are some images I’ve done lately.. as usual mostly doodles and sketchy sketches.  Loads of friends and family birthdays, which always means lots of fun drawings!

I have begun a new commission though, and it is an abstract.. Jungle Abstract though, so it should be kind of fun!

So I’m getting closer to finishing this one.. just a little more to do that will I hope make it really pop.

This will be exhibited and for sale in the coming Cockburn Show Off art exhibit in May 2015.

I’ve also started getting more into gouache, which gives this really great opaque feeling, bright colours all the way too!

The Early Years

The Early Years

I had to go through a bunch of old photos recently, as a close family member passed away.  I hadn’t looked at a lot of these old photos for so long, it was sad and yet happy to remember some really nice times with this person.

In doing so, I was transported back to an era of daggy fashions, innocent fun and simplistic good times.  You can see from these few shots, how my artwork today trys to incorporate a lot of the fun I had as a teen.  I think its the main component of my artwork and humour, and perhaps it’s my way of keeping my youthful ideals present in my life some place.  I hate getting old!

Just some more Samsung Tablet doodles.  I really should start these earlier in the evening, I’m up till all hours trying to finish them off before my eyelids cannot stay open any longer!

Below some creepy, sexist and fun old tv commercials that were shown here in Oz.

Titled : Oh Darlinggg!

Titled : Menagerie

Check out these old TV commercials that featured on Australian(and US) TV in the 60s, 80s & 90s.  Crack up!  So un-doable now, imagine the up roar if this next one went to air now!
