Art class – realism

Art class – realism

So decided it was time to head back to the Fremantle Arts Centre, and do an interesting art course.   So with the company of a good friend, we go once a week for the next month or so, to attempt to be taught how to paint realistic styled paintings in OILS!  YES oils!!  I’m going to be giving it a go, and the first week, I wasn’t quite prepared for this medium so completed my first painting in acrylics… which as you can see didn’t turn out too badly.

My keys.

Here is the following weeks work.. where we need to paint a small item in a gridded up area.. our first victim, a simple chicken egg!

This time I went with Oils, and had tonnes of fun re-familiarising myself with the medium!

Katy’s peaceful garden

Katy’s peaceful garden

This is the latest commission completed for a wonderfully vibrant lady, who has had a rough beginning to 2014.

She wanted something bold, colourful with hearts to lift her up and out of the blues.  Her favourite colour is red, and the lotus image that features quite heavily is a beautiful tattoo she has on her wrist.

She tells me she loves it, and I’m looking forward to seeing a photo of it hanging in her home soon!!

Surfboard design – 1990s

Surfboard design – 1990s

Was going through some super old photos tonight and came across this old photo.  I’d painted the design on this board in the 1990’s  for “The Plankshop” surfboard label, but the board itself was sold to someone in the States.

I have just found out that this board is actually hanging up in a California office, looking as good as the day it was made!  (apparently never riden!)  I’m glad at least it has been valued and kept for all to view… even if it never did get out into the water. 🙂 AWESOME!

Drongo’s Hero’s and Biscuits

Drongo’s Hero’s and Biscuits

I’m sure if you’re an aussie you’ll remember this guy – Cory Worthington… he seemed like as good as anyone to do a sketch of.

Who is he? meh… watch this:

I’ve also just found out that Biscuit Magazine have done a small feature, showing some of my older artworks… check it all at –  biscuitmagazine.com.au to see what they wrote!

Now, my true inspiration this week was stumbling onto a Perth artists website called “Fieldey”   She describes her art as(quite accurately)  “Operating in the sweaty crease between surf, graffiti and tattoo art”.

She  shows herself painting a zombified Kurt Cobain over on YouTube and it’s just bloody amazing…. definitely watch this!  She’s so talented it makes me wish I had just an atom of her talent.  the sound track to this vid kicks arse too!

Kline styles and Reflections

Kline styles and Reflections

The Freedom School of Art started back in for another term this week.  We looked at the style of Kline’s paintings…. not my total cup of tea really.  But it was kind of interesting watching our teacher produce one in the style of Kline’s famous black and white pieces.

I couldn’t really bring myself to produce something along this style, so went with this instead.  I like it actually.. not sure if it’s finished yet… perhaps I will work into it a bit more.

Rooftop gathering

Rooftop gathering

Started this off on Friday and finished it tonight (Monday) – I was in a bit of a rush as I had to submit my works tonight… turns out I don’t have to actually take them IN until the 12th November! God I’m a drongo lol.. Oh well, perhaps I’ll work into it a bit more..

Fairly pleased with how it turned out, although the little chimneys could be better.. so might use the extra time to improve those.

whew.

Nervous Little Dogs

Nervous Little Dogs

I finally finished the portrait of a friends pet, “Kiera”- a very excitable, sweet little nervous dog.. she’s so cute.. you can’t help but wanna let her jump up on your lap for a pet.

I tell ya though, that little doggie jacket gave me some woe’s, sheesh ..I may tidy it up some more later.

This photo isn’t the best, so will take another tomorrow during the day.. was just so pleased with it, had to post up. The little doggie jacket gave me some woe’s ..I may tidy it up some more later.

I’ll be putting this in the RSPCA Little Creatures exhibit this coming month, opens 8th June and runs for 6 weeks. Proceeds of all sales will go to the RSPCA.

I completed the portrait of the lovely Miss Mandy Murphy tonight. It was quite a fun little exercise! I’ve forwarded the link to her, so I do hope she likes.

On another positive note, I may of sold one of my exhibition pieces to the City of Cockburn who held the Show Off 5 event. They are apparently debating with all concerned in choosing which piece, but it looks to be the Cactus one! This means it will hang in their upstairs art gallery, along with a few others. How stoked am i !!?? 🙂
